As the tradition goes, I joined in as one of the contest operators for this year’s CQWW SSB. We were only four operators, but this time managed to stay on the air around the clock.
Up here in the north, propagation pretty much died out around 19:00 UTC leaving us only with 40m and 80m to work with. To complicate things even more, we had pretty good reception but transmitting appeared to be problematic. Somehow we were weak, despite pushing 1kW into both 40m yagi, and 40m and 80m 4-square antennas.
We currently only have a few hours of daylight per day, so doing any work on the antennas was out of the question.
Despite all that, we managed to log about 3,400 QSOs with four operators (just 1-2 on the air simultaneously)
Let’s hope for better conds (and radials) for CQWW CW.
