OJØT soon on the air

Tomorrow morning our journey begins, as we return to Market Reef once again. It will be my third visit to this DX entity, and the second time for the rest of the team. For some reason, despite our best efforts, OJ0 has climbed in the ClubLog’s DXCC Most Wanted list, and is currently at #155.

Most, if not all, of the equipment has been loaded into the van. It’s a 10+ hour drive to Stockholm where we will spend the night, followed by the ferry to Åland the next day.

With the experience from our previous DXpedition to OJ0, we are better prepared this time and will have four operators running simultaneously, working the bands from 160-6m. We also have equipment for 4m and 2m, but given the propagations at this time of the year, those bands will probably not be a top priority. Unless some miracle sporadic/tropo condx pops out of nowhere.

The digi mode haters in the crowd will be pleased to know that the team will focus more on SSB and CW during this expedition. Now, I’m a complete rookie when it comes to CW, but I will give it my best shot. If you hear OJ0T calling and the operator isn’t quite “top notch”, it’s probably me. Please have some patience, I’m trying my best, but I’ll resort to SSB if it’s turns into a complete failure. As for FT8, I personally only plan to run this mode while resting my voice, ears, or eating. Fine, let’s be honest here, also if I’m having a beer or two.

We have received a few requests for higher bands, including 17m, 15m, 12m, and 10m. We will work these bands whenever there are openings. 160m has also been requested, and we will try our best to follow the grayline across the continents. To increase your chances on 160m, tune in when you’re in the grayline: this is where the 160m magic happens — bow-chicka-wow-wow!

I will keep you guys posted with pictures, status updates, good and bad news, etc on the DXpedition website, which is located at https://oj0.no/ (a mirror of the top menu > DXpeditions > OJ0T)

We are extremely grateful for all donations, and all will be rewarded with a spot in our list of “VIP” callsigns. If we hear your callsign, you will be worked. If you need of a particular band or mode, please state this in the Paypal comment, and I’ll make sure it’s added to the list. Donating is optional and not required for QSL in any way or form; it’s just an opportunity to show your support and encourage us to make more plans for the future.

That’s it for now, the next update will (probably) be from somewhere in the Baltic sea.

Wish us luck, and hope to see you in the log! 73’s GD DX de OJØT, LB5SH
