Bouvet Island: photos
Here are a few pictures from the DXpedition to Bouvet Island in March, 2026. I originally planned to add a written story to the images, but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves this time. Bouvet is breathtaking. Brutal. Merciless. Pictures are available in the gallery. Bon voyage. From all of us – thank you…

Intermission
Before I start posting pictures from the 3YØK DXpedition, let’s take a short break and discuss a few things. Yes, you should read this too, even though it may or may not concern you. Quite many operators out there suffer from a condition called “silicae vaginalis”, more commonly known as having sand in their vaginas.…

3YØK QRT, but I’m alive
3YØK is QRT. We’ve been to Hell and back, trust me, you have no idea. Before you get all excited, this is not a post pictures. It will come later, so consider this a teaser. Ok, fine, you can have one: 102k+ QSOs in the log. On the air 24/7, with the exceptions of fuelling…

PA redesigned, tested
I had to work my way around a couple of unexpected obstacles. The transistor I used as a “pre-amp” did not perform well enough to work on 17m. The rise and fall time was way too slow, barely being able to perform at 630m / 475kHz. Indeed, that was my target frequency, but being expert…

PA considerations, redesign
Results from testing the power amplifier were both uplifting and disappointing. Let’s get straight to it. Let’s take the bad news first. The current design use a small NPN transistor to amplify the Si5351’s output signal from a unloaded 3.3V to 13.8V DC to allow the FQP13N10 mosfet to switch as intended. For frequencies higher…
